Name:
Maxine Elaine Auburn
Other Names:
Prefers to be called Max
Age:
18 Years Old
Gender
Female
District:
District 4
Occupation:
Lake Fisher
Face Claim?
Kat Dennings
Appearance:
Max is a tall young woman with an unusually full figure. Standing at 5'9", she easily looks down on other people from her District. Weighing 160lbs, she is toned but retains a full hourglass figure with a large bust and wide hips. She takes pride in her body and loves to catch men ogling from across the road. Her long black hair curls naturally in loose ringlets, framing her heart-shaped face. With soft blue eyes and full lips, she is often called beautiful by her peers.
When she isn't working, she can be found wearing slim-fitting jeans and sweaters or tee-shirts, depending on the season, and has mastered the ability to walk in high heels. She wears mostly shades of blue to match her eyes and to contrast her dark hair and pale skin. During the Games, she wears her District's tributes' colors in her hair in the way of bows, flowers, or barrettes to show support for her District.
Personality:
Max is a tremendous flirt; she will almost never pass up a chance to charm her way into someone's life only to leave him brokenhearted. She enjoys using her beauty and wit as a weapon against others, reeling them in only to cut them loose. She is of course awaiting the man that will win her over, but hasn't found him yet and is losing hope that it will happen. Her intelligence is undeniable, as she can be diabolical and takes great care when meeting new people for them not to get the wrong impression. She is nice when she has to be, but she prefers her charm and beauty to do all the talking so that she can think her way through situations.
Max wouldn't consider herself to be narcissistic, but she does take great pride in her appearance and isn't afraid to flaunt it. She tends to challenge people, whether willingly or not, on their beliefs about her; those who are correct are often her closest friends. Anyone who reads her wrong she mentally notes to be unintelligent or not worth her time. In a way, she's a bit stuck-up, but she doesn't consider herself to be. After all, it's not her fault that her opinions offend others, now is it? Her opinions, when voiced, do tend to make more enemies than friends for Max, though, so unless it's something she finds extremely important she will keep it to herself and will let others work it out.
Her strengths are her beauty, her intelligence, her wit and charm, her ability to lead, and her ability to work alone. On the flip side, her weaknesses are her attitude toward others, her ability to make more enemies than friends, and her ability to work alone (sometimes, people see this as her spurning them--which it most of the time is).
History:
Maxine Elaine Aurburn was born to Josephine and Aaron Aurburn in District 4. She spent the entirety of her childhood surrounded by water; whether it was the lake, where her mother works, or the river, where her father works, Max always had the water within arm's reach. She was never afraid of it--her parents taught her how to swim almost directly out of the womb. In her first couple of years her parents took her to the lake to swim every summer until she had mastered swimming and they didn't have to fear her falling into the water while she played on the shore. From then on, after school, her parents would teach her how to fish: from the basics to very advanced techniques, her parents taught her all that they knew. They hoped that when she was old enough to work that she would have a steady job and by default steady income and food to eat. By the same coin, her parents took her to secret training sessions by former tributes to learn all that she could in the case that she became a tribute in the Hunger Games. They wanted her to be well-prepared and wanted her to come back to them if she ever left. Now, she works at the Lake fishing with her mother and after work goes to her training sessions. She's become very proficient with both sharp objects and spears, allowing her to attack from both near and far. She's been taught to reserve her long distance weaponry to the last, only using it in cases where she knows she will kill with one hit or when she absolutely has to use it. She doesn't wish to be a tribute, but who ever does?
In-Character Sample:
"Listen to the sound of my breath. A good fighter always reads her opponent by how he is breathing." Max stood still and listened intently to what her teacher was saying; his breaths were coming short and quick. He was winded. He would be an easy target. "What does my breathing betray about me?"
Quickly, Max began to batter her teacher with attacks until his stamina was worn down enough that she could place the killing blow. Spinning, twirling, leaping; she incorporated all of these into her attacks, forcing her opponent to stay on the defensive and keeping him from attacking himself. Once she had the tip of her sword against his neck, she whispered in his ear, slightly breathless from her acrobatics. "Your breath says that you're tired and won't be on your best game. You're an easy target." Max released him and stepped back to allow him room to speak.
"Spectacular, Max! I applaud you. You've learned well. But what have I told you about being overly dramatic in your attacks? All that achieves is making you tired and dizzy--not much better than your winded opponent." He shook his head slightly. "Max, you have to think in the long run when you're in the Arena. You may kill one man with you attacks, but they'll leave you tired and sore so that another will come and take you in your exhaustion." She bowed her head; he was right. She shouldn't have been so careless.
"Only fight when necessary, and never use too much energy to do it," she recited calmly. Her instructor nodded.
"Now, let's try this again. What does my breath say about me?"
